Central Square

Cambridge's diverse, gritty, beloved heart — live music, international restaurants, and a community that resists gentrification even as the neighborhood evolves.

Typical Price Range:$525K (1BR condo) – $1.8M (multi-family)

About Central Square

Central Square is the Cambridge that Cambridge residents actually love — not the postcard version, but the real one. Mass Ave runs through it with a density of international restaurants, live music venues, dive bars, and social services that gives the square a character no other neighborhood in the metro can match. The Middle East and Sonia have launched more bands than most cities' entire music scenes combined. The restaurant row spans Ethiopian, Korean, Indian, Haitian, Mexican, and more — all within a few blocks. The residential streets on either side of Mass Ave are a mix of multi-families, older condos, and some surprisingly stately homes once you get a block or two off the main drag. Central is changing — new development is coming, rents are rising — but the bones of the neighborhood's identity remain intact.

Property Character

Multi-families and condo conversions on the residential streets flanking Mass Ave. Some larger homes on the quieter streets toward Cambridgeport. More rental stock than owner-occupied, but condo conversions are increasing. Prices are lower than Harvard Square but rising steadily.
